About the Inpatient Service

BAND works alongside staff and trained volunteers to provide a safe and friendly environment for patients to spend time away from the wards

We provide light refreshments and a chance to chat with a volunteer or to share any problems that you might have during your stay.

Our volunteers also visit the wards every day so that those people who are not able to come to 'The Lounge' can speak to someone other than ward staff.

We provide signposting a referral pathway for patients to other organisations and services, e.g. Advocacy.

Our volunteers support the provision of meaningfully daytime activities for inpatients.

Creative Pastimes

This work was initiated by a young man who spent some time as an inpatient within psychiatric care. He identified that sometimes, when a person has had a long stay in hospital, they need support to reintegrate into the community.

Creative Pastimes aims to help people get used to doing everyday activities such as going shopping, using public transport, attending social events and becoming involved in community activities.

Patients that are due for discharge can either self refer into the service or a member of staff can make the referral on your behalf.

The work is linked to our Recovery Based Service. There is an opportunity to access support following discharge through our one to one befriending and mentoring service, or by joining one or more of our Shared Interest Groups
