Mental Health Training - Raising Awareness within BME communities
A NVQ level 1 course has been developed in partnership with Bolton College and is being delivered to the members of BME communities across Bolton e.g. Service users, carers, families etc. The course covers:
- History of BME communities in UK
- Beliefs around Mental Health in BME communities
- Major symptoms and labels
- The roles of different Mental Health professionals
- How to get help
- How to support people who need help
The purpose is not just to raise awareness of MH issues but also support members of the BME communities in Bolton to have a recognised qualification which may lead them into employment in Mental Health or further education. First round has now been completed and 12 participants from BME communities have successfully completed the course. Next round of the course will start in September 2007.
