South Asian Carers' Group
The purpose of this group is to help carers from South Asian Communities cope better with caring responsibilities, deal with any issues, share experiences with each other and get out and about on trips away from their day to day caring responsibilities. The group has been developed further since October 2006 and has a membership of 24 carers and it is increasing. Senior CDW is currently leading the group and working closely with the members. The plan is to give the group a proper structure so that it can operate as an independent group and provide a whole range of different services to South Asian carers looking after people with mental health problems
A day trip to Blackpool and an Eid party have been the major activities organised by the group in 2006.
The group will start meeting once every two months from August 2007. Funding is currently sought to recruit a carers' support worker to help group develop further and operate effectively. The group is a really important platform for the South Asian Carers to get together and have a break from their caring responsibilities, share information and learn more about mental health and other services.
